Central America

Pastor Chris is currently deployed to Central America, serving as chaplain to 300 marines and sailors. Part of maintaining their spiritual fitness is regular "mission" trips, or community events - where he leads a group of volunteers to an orphanage, special needs home, or school.

*The Missions Committee is currently planing an overseas mission for 2018.

Serve and Volunteer

At LUMC we strive to fulfill God's command to serve others out of our calling and giftedness. Christians have been called to follow Jesus - and often that means to the least of these. The Bible also teaches us that every Christian is gifted by the Holy Spirit - to serve or ministry in some capacity.

There are many ways to serve: globally, nationally, locally, or within the local church.

  • national and global

In 2016, one of our youth, Nettie, traveled to Bolivia to work at the Life Center for orphan boys (shown in the picture).  Other international projects include 150 school sewing kits for Liberia (2015 & 2016)), supporting Heifer International, as well as mission trips to Alaska, Chili.

  • local

One of most meaningful local missions is our monthly community dinner (shown in pic), averaging 80 individuals. Other local projects include: the Pregnancy Center, Food Life Services, Domestic Violence Center, Imagination Library, Habitat for Humanity, and The Boy & Cub Scouts of America.

  • within the local church

And of course there are always roles within the local to serve and minister. One of our most successful summer outreach programs has been Art Camp - a program that explores how creativity is a gift from God and meant to bring glory to Him (volunteers show in pic). Other ways to volunteer within the church include: music ministries, children and youth ministries, greeters, ushers, Psalm readers on Sunday morning, etc.
